Money Talks podcast: Rich dad wealthy daughter
Instilling in Parker important lessons on personal finance, investing and entrepreneurship.
I finished the New York Times best seller Rich Dad Poor Dad last month.
It was long overdue.
But once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. It was the first physical book I’ve completed in years. I consume most books via audio. I’ve started and stopped every other physical book I’ve bought, borrowed or been gifted. This one was different. This one captured my complete attention. This one resonated so much it inspired me to think bigger with business possibilities and to strive for more.
I wish I had read the book when I was in my 20s. Light bulbs would have come on back then. The pages present critical ideas and actionable steps that apply to me and my pursuits. For a summer reading project, I assigned Parker the book. She owes me a chapter-by-chapter report on what she learned. I figured she could relate. She’s practically living the book’s plot.
Parker has relayed to me multiple times that she isn’t being taught about money anyplace else. That makes it imperative that I teach her. If I don’t, no one will and she’ll learn the hard way. Instead, by starting her financial education young, Parker already has a leg up. By passing down information and through the power of time, she’ll be far more financially intelligent and successful than me.
That’s why we titled Episode 3 of the Money Talks podcast “Rich Dad Wealthy Daughter.” In this episode, Parker joins me to discuss her summer, her surprising thoughts on school ahead of fourth grade and the biggest money lessons she’s learned since we started having regular money talks.
We also reveal Parker’s nickname at 9: Dirty Face Stickler Rat. You’ll have to listen to understand. After you do, help us settle a debate by voting in our first poll. Tell us which nickname works better for Parker’s dream job as a YouTuber.
